Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is the busiest contract air traffic control tower in the United States and one of the most successful
commercial airports in the region, but the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority has plans to make it even better.
Building on the masterplan finalized in 2008, the PMGAA hopes to maximize the potential of the east side of the airport, which spans
approximately 700 acres. Because the Loop 202, State Route 24, and main thoroughfares of Ray, Ellsworth, and Pecos roads are nearby,
the east side is capable of supporting a number of operations.
Preliminary planning includes development of a new commercial passenger service terminal, commercial parcels, retail spaces, and aeronautical
facilities. The masterplan is estimated to be complete by fall of 2020.
